You can also get an overview of the overall project status using the Project > Show Status report function. The report listing can be used to: Project plan data — this is the overview. It contains column headings as well as a picture of the calendar view which displays project information in combination with period color codes. The Project plan status report goes beyond a simple overview and displays working period information like: amount of effort, percent done, task due dates, next and previous task dependency information and much more. Schedule — this is how you get a better sense of project working time and resource needs. Schedule plan data goes beyond just displaying working periods and gives a sense of how much time a particular resource needs to complete a task and its dependencies. It also shows resource levels and a high-level status of the entire project. The Project’s resources are linked to the project plan data and the tasks the resources do. Project history — this gives an aggregated view of the entire project from start to end. Users can go back in time to analyze changes needed to get from point A to point B, or what has changed since the last time the project was analyzed. Real time reports — a real time reporting function, which can be a useful error check. The reports can be informative: for example, if a user created a multiple-project report and noticed a red bar with a status of “In Progress” on a Gantt chart for a specific project, the user could then go to a project plan for that project and view the task status. It can also be used to make fast decisions: if a resource is available more often than you planned, you can ask them to keep track of their availability so you can better plan and account for their availability.
Each project can have a history of 100 Back reports which can be accessed via Gantt > View History. The View History reports can be copied or dragged into any Gantt chart from MS Project and they will follow the associated project. d2c66b5586
